Hockey Players Receive Jerseys at HHN!
On January 16, 2010 Sheldon Kannegiesser, Gordon Kannegiesser and Jim Watson visited Hockey Heritage North. Sheldon and Jim had never received their Honoured Members Jerseys from HHN, so a small induction ceremony was held and they were "officially" inducted into Hockey Heritage North. All three also took a tour and signed our wall. While at HHN Sheldon promoted his new book 'Warriors of Winter - Rhymes of a Blueliner Balladeer'. Don Cherry and others in the media have called Kannegiesser's best selling book 'brilliant and an epic piece.' While here, Sheldon read a poem from his book titled The Fearless John Hock and the Mighty Michael Mckey. We all had a great time with these remarkable men, and they had wonderful hockey memories to share with the community.
While visiting Hockey Heritage North, Jim Watson took time out to go to the Kirkland Lake Community Complex and sign his portrait. There are 42 portraits hanging in the arena section of the complex all painted by Mark Didine. Each painting is a larger than life portrait of an NHL player from Kirkland Lake.
Hockey Heritage North Torch Celebration Site!!
On January 1, 2010 Hockey Heritage North was the Celebration Site for the Olympic Torch Relay. Although it was a cold day, a lot of people turned out to see the torch and take part in the celebrations. Before the final torch bearer Sammy Desjardins arrived to light the cauldron we were entertained by Beaver house and Matachewan First Nations drum group Lori Carter-Kasner and her daughter Bailey sang 'Believe'. Jamie Taylor and his band Rockslide, Ensemble Melodia and of course the Olympic mascots Miga and Quatchi. It was a great day for all of us and a proud moment for Kirkland Lake. Below are some of the pictures we took of that day.
